Attention drawn to regulate prices of ‘pulse oximeters’

It has been reported the State Ministry of Drug Regulation Provision are holding discussions to issue a gazette notification to declare a control price for pulse oxymeters.

Accordingly, the gazette notification would be issued by the National Drug Regulatory Authority (NDRA) to control prices, after the discussions are concluded.

Since the numbers of COVID-19 patients and deaths are increased in recent times, the prices of pulse oxymeters have been also increased. Right now the oxymeters which were incially sold at Rs. 1350, are being sold between Rs. 4000 – 8000.

Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding the quality of these oxymeters as well.

The State Ministry said that only three companies were permitted to sell the ‘pulse oxymeter’ by the NDRA. However, it has been revealed that low quality of oxymeters have been smuggled into the country through Sri Lanka Customs.

Doctors say that it cannot be get an accurate results from using these types of oxymeters.
