Arrested ‘Toy Pistol Mayor’ released on the same day

Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando has been arrested by Bambalapitiya Police over an alleged assault, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.

He was released on Police bail on the same day.

Accordingly, a private sector security officer had filed a complaint against Fernando alleging that Fernando had had stormed into a property at Kothalawala avenue in Bambalapitiya last week without giving any reason and had verbally abused and assaulted him and the other security officer who was with him.

The security official was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital later.

Following the complaint, Bambalapitiya Police had launched an investigation into the alleged incident.
