Number of applications for passports has increased significantly in recent time, Ceylon Today reported.
According to Spokesman of the Department of Immigration and Emigration Gayan Milinda said those at present approximately 1,500 passports are being issued daily under the one-day service.
He said that the average number of passports issued daily under the one-day service before the pandemic was 1,000.
“Only 600 passports were issued daily under the normal service, at present approximately 1,000 passports are issued per day under this service. Also, 22,139 passports were issued from 1 – 18 October. Out of these, 15,889 passports were expeditiously obtained under the one-day service,” Milinda said.
