Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando appeared at the CID this morning (5) following a request to be present at the CID premises to obtain a statement over his remarks made at an online forum, related to Easter Sunday Bombings in 2019.

State Intelligence Service (SIS) Chief Major General Suresh Salley had filed a complaint at the CID over remarks made by Fr. Fernando and several others at the said online forum.

Fr. Fernando had filed a Fundamental Rights application with the Supreme Court seeking an order to prevent any attempt being made by the Criminal Investigations Department to arrest him, after summoning him to the CID to record a statement.

Following that, the CID told the court that the Rev. Father would not be arrested.
