Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando today (10) said that he would be resigning from the post.
It was reported recently that Fernando would be appointed as the Chairman of Lanka Salt Ltd. The post had been vacant following the removal of former Chairman Nishantha Sandabarana.
Prior to the removal of Sandabarana, Hambantota Municipal Council members and residents of the area staged a protest, demanding the removal of him.
The protesters alleged that workers at Hambantota Salt Ltd. have been severely inconvenienced due to actions of Sandabarana.
