Former Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena says he was unaware of the Easter attack before leaving the country.

Speaking at an event in a Church in his hometown of Polonnaruwa, the former President stated that he flew to Singapore in April 2019 for treatment, and was not aware of the impending attacks.

Furthermore, Sirisena stated that if he had known of the attack, he would not have left the country, and would have immediately imposed curfew across Sri Lanka, in addition to arresting the relevant suspects as soon as possible.
