There is an increase in “upper respiratory tract infection (URI) amongst children,” being admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH), Ceylon Today reported.
Quoting Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Deepal Perera, Ceylon Today reported that although the number of patients with COVID-19 has reduced, there was an increase observed in the number of patients with upper respiratory tract infections.
The main cause of the infection could be a virus but all young patients could not be given antibiotics to treat it he said, despite some parents asking for antibiotics for the treatment of their child, the news report said.
