Electricity tarrifs increased by 66%

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced today that they had received approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) to increase the electricity tariff from today.

Accordingly, the electricity tariffs would be increased by 66%, the CEB said.

The PUCSL, except for Chairman Janaka Ratnayake gave its approval for the tariff hike yesterday. It isreported that following implementation of new rates, there will be no more power cuts. However, power cuts is reported across the island today.
