The Police Constable suspected of assisting the notorious criminal figure Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, also known as ‘Harak Kata,’ in his failed escape from the custody of the Criminal CID is believed to have fled overseas, Ada Derana reported.
Ada Derana, quoting Investigations have revealed that immediately after the incident on Sunday night (10 September), the suspect contacted his residence in Seruwila, Trincomalee. Subsequently, he used WhatsApp to assure his family that he was “safe and in another country.”
Additionally, the police suspect that the suspect’s girlfriend, who is also a serving Police Constable, may have had knowledge of ‘Harak Kata’s’ activities.
In response to the ongoing investigation, eight CID officers who interrogated ‘Harak Kata’ on the day of his escape attempt have been temporarily transferred.
Furthermore, on 13 September, Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered the CID to present the report submitted to the forensic medical officer by ‘Harak Kata,’ who claimed to have been injured during the altercation on September 10.
A group of lawyers, including President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsekularatne, representing ‘Harak Kata,’ filed a motion asserting that their client had sustained injuries during the altercation and requested the court to issue a relevant order in this regard.
