The police have recovered a T-56 assault rifle based on information provided during the interrogation of the notorious underworld figure and drug trafficker, Sanjeewa Kumara, also known as ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa.’

As a result of this information, it has come to light that the firearm in question was used in multiple crimes within the Gampaha area, according to the police.

Further investigations into the arrested underworld figure are being conducted under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Rohan Premaratne, who oversees the Western Province. The suspect has been remanded to the Weeragula Police Station, as most of the reported crimes associated with him occurred in the Gampaha District.

‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa,’ a notorious criminal, was apprehended by officers from the Department of Immigration and Emigration at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake upon his arrival from Nepal on September 13th. The police have obtained a 90-day detention order under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) to question him.

At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of a forged passport and personal details of a female resident believed to be from the Dematagoda area, according to police reports.

‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’ is believed to have illegally entered India by boat, subsequently fleeing to Nepal, and then returning to Sri Lanka after an Interpol ‘Red Warrant’ was issued for his arrest.
