The Colombo District Court today (21) issued a restraining order to halt the execution of an explanatory letter sent by Maithripala Sirisena, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), to former SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara.
The decision to issue this enjoining order was made by Colombo District Court Judge Sandun Vithana in response to a complaint filed by Dayasiri Jayasekara, who was recently removed from his position as General Secretary of the SLFP. This restraining order will remain in effect until October 5th.
Dayasiri Jayasekara, a Member of Parliament, challenged the validity of a letter dated September 18, 2023, issued by SLFP Chairman and former President Maithripala Sirisena. The letter sought explanations from him before taking disciplinary actions in response to various allegations. Jayasekara argued that the party Chairman does not possess the authority, as defined by the party’s constitution, to arbitrarily issue such a letter.
