A recent earthslip near the 102km Post between Pinnaduwa and Imaduwa interchanges of the Southern Expressway has resulted in injuries to at least six Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel on duty, who have been hospitalized, according to the Road Development Authority (RDA).
The RDA’s Director General has also reported that mounds of earth on both sides of the expressway at this location have collapsed onto the road.
As a precaution, residents in the areas near the affected section of the expressway are strongly urged to evacuate immediately to safer locations due to the risk of further earthslips and rock falls.
This earthslip incident has led to the closure of the Southern Expressway for vehicular traffic. Those entering from the direction of Galle are advised to exit from the Imaduwa interchange, while those arriving from the direction of Colombo should use the Pinnaduwa interchange for their exit.
