Suspect Arrested in Dehiwala for Aiding Trafficking Sri Lankans to Russia

Following investigations into the human trafficking racket that sent hundreds of Sri Lankans, mostly former soldiers to the front line of Russia – Ukraine war, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested an individual in Dehiwala for allegedly assisting in sending 120 persons to Russia on tourist visas.

The arrest was made by officers from the Human Trafficking, Smuggling, and Maritime Crimes Investigation Division of the CID.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect allegedly aided and abetted the sending of individuals to Russia on tourist visas by targeting people in front of the Russian Embassy in Colombo.

Police stated that the suspect is currently being interrogated and will be produced before court tomorrow (21).

Further investigations are being conducted under the supervision of the Director of the Human Trafficking and Maritime Crime Investigation Division, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samarakoon Banda, and under the guidance of Senior DIG of CID Rohan Premaratne.
