Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry announced that Russia will now mandate clearance from Sri Lanka’s Defence Ministry for visit visas of ex-servicemen.

This decision was confirmed during a constructive meeting with Russian Ambassador Levan S. Dzhagaryan in Colombo on 29 May.

Ali Sabry highlighted that they addressed the urgent issue of Sri Lankans being deployed in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and agreed on immediate steps to resolve these concerns.

Additionally, Ali Sabry noted that the upcoming visit by State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tharaka Balasuriya, to Russia will facilitate further discussions to find a solution to this matter.
