Five individuals arrested for the brutal assault of a young child have been remanded until 19 June by the Padaviya Magistrate Court.

According to the police, the assaulted child has been placed under the care of Probation and Child Care Services.

The main suspect, known as ‘Kukul Chaminda,’ a resident of Welioya, was arrested after a video surfaced showing him brutally assaulting a toddler. The widely circulated video led to a manhunt for the suspect, who had fled the Welioya area with the child.

On Wednesday, police arrested five individuals in connection with the incident: the main suspect, three women, and another individual who helped the suspect evade arrest.
