Sri Lanka Eletcricity Bill Passed in Parliament

The Sri Lanka Electricity Bill was passed by a majority of 44 votes following a debate held in Parliament today (06).

At the end of the debate on the Second Reading of the Bill, the Opposition called for a division. Consequently, 59 votes were cast against the Bill, and 103 votes were cast in favor.

Amendments were added to the Bill during the Committee Stage, and the Third Reading was passed without a vote.

This Bill was presented to Parliament on April 25, 2024, and aims to make necessary arrangements for reforms in the electricity sector.
