During his visit to India, President Ranil Wickremesinghe met with state officials from neighboring countries while attending the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
President Wickremesinghe visited New Delhi at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi to witness the oath-taking ceremony of the new Indian government.
Following the ceremony, President Wickremesinghe attended a banquet hosted by Indian President Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday, June 9.
According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the banquet was organized for leaders from neighboring countries who attended Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in, marking the start of his third term.
The banquet was attended by President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives, Vice President Ahmed Afif of Seychelles, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth of Mauritius, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda of Nepal, and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan.
During his visit, President Wickremesinghe also met with S. Jaishankar, who was reappointed as India’s External Affairs Minister in the new Modi government. They had a discussion in New Delhi today.
Additionally, President Wickremesinghe met with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also in India for Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.
