The Constitutional Council has postponed the approval of President’s recommendation to extend Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam’s tenure by six months.
During a meeting held yesterday (10), the council decided to defer the discussion for further deliberation. Rajaratnam’s current term is set to expire at the end of this month, and the President proposed a six-month extension.
However, the proposal requires the council’s approval, which has been delayed. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana announced that the council will reconvene on the 18th of this month.
