Sri Lanka Railways has announced a special railway service providing toll-free rides for a week, starting today (17), exclusively for passengers traveling from Anuradhapura to Mihintale for Poson Poya Day.

Additionally, arrangements have been made to introduce a special bus service from Maho railway station to Anuradhapura for passengers arriving from Colombo to Maho.

Due to ongoing renovation work along the Northern Railway track between Maho and Anuradhapura railway stations, train services from Maho to Anuradhapura will be temporarily suspended. To ensure the convenience of pilgrims, approximately 400 additional buses will be deployed to facilitate transportation during this period.

Furthermore, Minister of Highways, Transport, and Mass Media, Bandula Gunawardena, inaugurated the renovated railway line between Mihintale and Anuradhapura earlier today (17).

This year, Poson Full Moon Poya Day falls on June 21, with the National Poson Week set to commence tomorrow (18), featuring various religious ceremonies at Atamasthana in Anuradhapura.

Anuradhapura District Secretary Janaka Jayasundara anticipates a significant influx of devotees to Anuradhapura and Mihintale for this year’s Poson celebrations.
