The Speaker of Parliament announced the Supreme Court’s determination on the proposed ‘Sri Lanka Telecommunications (Amendment) Bill.’
The Supreme Court has found that several clauses of the Bill are inconsistent with the Constitution. According to the court’s ruling, these clauses will require a special majority in Parliament to be passed.
However, if the contentious clauses are amended, they can be passed with a simple majority.
