CBSL Appoints Two New Deputy Governors

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has appointed two new Deputy Governors effective this week. Assistant Governor and Secretary to the Governing Board A. A. M. Thassim and Assistant Governor J. P. R. Karunaratne have been promoted to Deputy Governors of the CBSL, with their appointments taking effect on June 20 and June 24, respectively.

In a statement, the CBSL announced that the appointments were made by the Minister of Finance, following recommendations from the CBSL Governing Board in accordance with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Act, No. 16 of 2023.

Mr. A.A.M. Thassim brings over 31 years of experience at CBSL, having held various roles in banking supervision and regulation, international operations, communication, payments and settlements, and more. He has also served on several high-level internal committees, including those focused on monetary policy, financial system stability, and international reserves.

Mr. J. P. R. Karunaratne, with over 33 years of service at CBSL, has worked in areas such as bank and non-bank financial institution supervision, currency management, public debt, and policy review. He has served as the Director of Supervision of Non-Bank Financial Institutions and the Superintendent of Currency, contributing significantly to the legal and regulatory framework of the non-bank financial sector and its consolidation efforts.
