The Chief Justice has nominated a fuller bench comprising five judges of the Supreme Court to hear a Fundamental Rights petition seeking an order to restrain the Election Commission from proceeding with steps to conduct the Presidential election in 2024.
A five-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, will hear this petition on Monday, July 8.
Businessman Chamindra Dayan Lenawa, a resident of Panadura, is seeking an order preventing the Election Commission from holding the Presidential Election until the Supreme Court makes a determination regarding the tenure of the incumbent President.
