The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the preparation of a draft bill to amend Article 83(b) of the Constitution, changing the clause “exceeding 6 years” to “exceeding 5 years.”
President Ranil Wickremesinghe submitted the proposal to the Cabinet to eliminate any ambiguity and inconsistency regarding the tenure of the President and the Parliament in Articles 30(2), 62(2), and 83(b) of the Constitution.
