GMOA to Launch Strike Next Week

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has announced a strike on Wednesday, 18 September, in response to what it describes as a biased and unjust disciplinary inquiry against one of its members.

The inquiry was initiated by the Health Ministry against the GMOA’s Assistant Secretary, Dr. Palitha Rajapaksha, who is affiliated with the Badulla Teaching Hospital.

In the lead-up to the strike, the GMOA has begun displaying black flags at hospitals across the island for a seven-day period, according to the association’s media spokesman, Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe.

The GMOA claims that Dr. Rajapaksha, in his role as a trade union leader, exposed the truth about the critical drug shortage at Badulla Hospital in 2022.
