Indian Coast Guard Detains Three Sri Lankan Fishermen for Illegal Intrusion

The Indian Coast Guard apprehended three Sri Lankan fishermen who strayed into Indian waters near Rameswaram on Tuesday. According to India Media DTNEXT, the fishermen were onboard a fibre boat when they were intercepted during a routine patrol in the Bay of Bengal.

The vessel, registered as OFRP 5671 JFN, was seized by the ICGS Mandapam. Following standard procedures, the case was transferred to the Tamil Nadu Coastal Security Group, Mandapam.

The detained individuals have been identified as R. Niroshan (34) from Nedunkulam, Colombuthurai, T. Bala Ramesh (37) from Udunthurai, Thalayadi, Jaffna, and P. Pulaykumar (44) from the same locality in Sri Lanka.

A joint investigation into the incident is currently underway, sources report.
