IMF Chief Pledges Continued Support to Sri Lanka’s New President

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has assured Sri Lanka’s newly elected President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, that the global lender remains a steadfast partner, committed to supporting Sri Lanka in achieving its development and reform objectives under the ongoing IMF-supported program.

In a congratulatory letter to President Dissanayake, Georgieva expressed confidence in his leadership to guide Sri Lanka towards a future of stability, prosperity, and inclusive growth.

“We at the IMF greatly value the excellent engagement we have had with Sri Lanka over the years,” Georgieva stated. She emphasized that the IMF stands ready to assist the country in building upon the hard-won gains that have helped set Sri Lanka on a path to recovery after one of its worst economic crises.

The IMF chief also expressed her desire to deepen the partnership between the IMF and Sri Lanka, wishing Dissanayake success in his future endeavors.
